Medway libraries are curating the People’s Poem for Peace.

The poem is being created to commemorate VE day, which marked the end of World War 2 in Europe on 8th May 1945.

They are asking the people who live, work, or study in Medway to participate in creating this poem together.

The subject of the poem is peace. What does peace mean to you? What does peace mean to the world?

Please send in a maximum of 250 words on the theme of peace, and these will be edited into one large collaborative poem.

The poem editor will be creating some prompts to help get you started, and will be sharing these on social media, or you can ask at your local library for the writing prompts

All ages are welcome to send in an entry – entries will be edited, and the poem will be curated/ edited by poet Dan Simpson, using the words sent in by the public.

Entries can be sent in via the website here, or in person at all libraries.

The deadline is Sunday, 27 April, and the poem will be performed on the 8th May, VE Day.

A special commemoration using the poem is also planned for VJ day in August, details to be announced.
