The Rochester Literature Festival welcomes author Debz Hobbs-Wyatt, whose début novel ‘While No One Was Watching’, was published last year.

While No One Was Watching is set against the backdrop of the Kennedy assassination and the abduction of a young girl from the grassy knoll on that fateful day. The novelist discusses how those events influenced her novel, asking: What is the obligation to truth when truth is so elusive? And what role do the fiction writers and the film makers play in influencing what we believe? The author will also be reading from her novel and selling and signing copies.

Recently returned from Los Angeles where she helped launch her novel in the US, Debz has been shortlisted for the Commonwealth Short Story Prize, nominated for the Pushcart Prize, and is the winner of the Bath Short Story Award. Her novel has won rave reviews, being described by the Welsh Books Council as “an accomplished début that raises huge questions around secrecy, memory and the writing of history”. This is an unmissable chance to see a talented author at the beginning of what will likely be a distinguished writing career.

Debz will be at Café Nucleus, Chatham, on Wednesday, 1st October. Doors open 6.30pm. Tickets cost £4, available here.
